The Hammond Live Window Art Competition transforms the boarded windows surrounding Dan Rabin Plaza into a vibrant outdoor art gallery. Throughout the day, selected artists will paint original works on primed panels while visitors watch the creative process unfold, turning the Hammond market into an interactive celebration of local talent.
Held during the September Hispanic Heritage Month celebration market, the competition brings together artists, businesses, market visitors, and the community through live art, creativity, and connection. Completed pieces will remain on display after the event, adding temporary public artwork that brightens downtown and celebrates Hammond's growing arts scene.
A FEATURED LIVE MURAL EXPERIENCE
Watch Felix Bring a Community Mural to Life
As part of the September Hammond Art Walk and in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, local artist Felix Maldonado Jr. will create a large-scale mural live throughout the day. Inspired by the many cultures, backgrounds, and traditions that make Hammond unique, the mural will become a lasting symbol of community, creativity, and connection.
Visitors are encouraged to stop by throughout the event to watch the mural evolve, meet the artist, and experience the creative process from the first brushstroke to the finished piece.

Transform Downtown Hammond into an Outdoor Gallery
Watch Dan Rabin Plaza come alive as artists transform primed window panels into vibrant works of public art during the Hammond Farmed & Forged market. Throughout the day, selected artists will paint original designs inspired by Flowers & Plant Life, creating a colorful outdoor gallery that visitors can experience as it unfolds.
Whether you're an experienced muralist, illustrator, painter, or creative looking to work on a larger scale, the Hammond Live Window Art Competition is an opportunity to showcase your work, connect with the community, and compete for cash prizes.
Throughout the day, visitors will watch artists paint live, explore local businesses, shop the Farmed & Forged Market, and vote for their favorite completed artwork in our People's Choice Competition.
