About Courtney

I grew up in Valparaiso, but now I live in Schererville with my husband Josh and our super adorable pets. We have TWO cats (Helados and Chico) and one dog (Diamond). I teach 5th grade and have been with the same school for 4 years. Last summer I graduated with my master’s degree in education at my alma mater, Purdue University. When I’m not teaching or bleaching, I am listening to true crime podcasts or rock music. I love illustration and design, so I like to mess around with my iPad’s Procreate app to create digital art.

Lumber Jax is an apparel company that distresses thrifted flannel using bleach. Our focus is redesigning unwanted post production clothing so that someone can pick it up and fall back in love with it. Whatever flannels are left get cut up and sewn into Tupac-style headbands.

INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR NAME

I wanted to create a name that was both familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. Flannel is often associated with lumberjacks, so that was my main inspiration. I changed the spelling to give a playful vibe that is often seen with my pieces.
