A NOTE FROM AMANDA:

I’m Amanda Jozaitis, the owner and creative behind Region Design Co. a design and illustration studio based in Northwest Indiana, an hour away from Chicago.

I help brands shine by using my fun-yet refined, modern vintage style. I graduated from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art Printmaking and a minor in Graphic Design. Over the course of 15 years, I've worked at corporations and at a marketing agency as a designer.

While working full-time, my husband and I operated our side hustle, Region Press Screen Printing Co., where we combined our love of printmaking and apparel design within our local community. Since 2021, I have been honing my skills in digital illustration and hand lettering. I am now fully available for freelance to help with brand strategy and logo/identity design or to create custom designs and illustrations to accompany your existing brand.

Visit my new website, regiondesignco.com, to see my portfolio and full service offerings. Let's work together! I am now booking clients for this year!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS

My business has evolved from a screen printing company to a freelance design and illustration company. I still take on apparel design requests and only screen print orders that I have a hand in the design process from the beginning. I am also working on illustrations that I hope to pitch to larger manufacturers and retailers to be art licensed onto products.

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF

I graduated from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art Printmaking and a minor in Graphic Design. Over the course of 15 years, I've worked at corporations and at a marketing agency as a graphic designer. My favorite activity right now is drawing on my Procreate app, I think we've become best friends!

When I'm not running my business, I spend time with my husband, two daughters, friends, and family. I love to live life to the fullest, so I am always planning a weekend getaway or vacation to explore and experience new things. I especially love camping, except for the packing and unpacking part. I wish I put more time aside to read books, but enjoy a good Netflix show or movie at the end of the night instead. The last couple of years, I've gotten into lifting weights, so you can often find me in the gym.

WHAT DO YOU WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR EVENT/ACCOMPLISHMENT?

I am available to help any business with graphic design and illustration, not limited to only apparel design and printing. I’ve worked on everything from logo design, custom illustrations for social media, multi-page brochure layouts, national and international advertising campaigns, all the way up to large scale trade show displays, and so much more.

WHY DID YOU START YOUR BUSINESS? WHAT DRIVES YOU?

I started my business to be my own boss, have the choice to pick and choose projects that interest me, and have the flexibility to be home and more available for my kids. I also realized that I had some personal growth that I needed to figure out on my own. I had a hard time getting better at certain things while working for someone else, because I was not lucky enough to have a mentor in the ways I felt I needed to improve in the workplace. What drives me is the excitement of working with a company that I admire and/or a project that has a lot of creative potential.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF IN YOUR BUSINESS?

I'm proud to be a full-time creative business owner, not many people get the chance to do what they love full time, especially as an artist. I remember my Grandma telling me that I would never be able to make art for a living, because that wasn't really possible back then. Nowadays, with social media and other avenues, there are many ways to put yourself out there and leverage your art or designs to make a living.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE RUNNING YOUR BUSINESS?

I would say wearing a lot of hats and carving out the time to focus on each thing. Everything feels important and you wish it was done yesterday. Just accepting you can only do so much in a day or week, slow growth is good growth. I'm still trying to work through these challenges, but I'd say I make a lot of lists, try to guess how much time each thing will take, and try to assign chunks of time for administrative tasks vs creative projects. Streamlining processes is something I'd like to work on next to save me time in the long run and feel more confident and less anxiety as new projects arise.

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE SETS YOUR PRODUCT OR SERVICE APART FROM OTHERS?

I don't have a lot of talents, but art and design has always been something that has made me stand out from the crowd. I am great at asking the right questions and gathering the right research about a project. I then design every little detail until it is perfect, and I don't stop until I and the client are happy with it. I am very reliable and have a high success rate of getting the project right with little to no revisions.

WHAT’S THE DREAM? WHAT’S THE END GAME?

My dream would be to travel around the country or world with my laptop and iPad, designing illustrations for products and apparel that would be available in major retail stores.
