About Amanda

Born and raised to an artistic family in La Porte, Indiana, I have always been known as the art kid in school. Other kids would ask me to draw pictures for them and by high school I was taking private lessons and selling pastel landscapes at local farmer's markets and festivals.

After high school graduation, I needed a break from my hometown and moved to Milwaukee to attend the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) for college. I was one of only three Printmaking majors, this is where I fell in love with the screen-printing process. Wary of graduating and becoming a starving artist, I added a Graphic Design minor to my degree, and have been trying to merge art and design ever since!

To be closer to family, friends, and to marry my husband, Dave, I moved back to La Porte after college graduation. My husband later became a supervisor at a screen-printing company. By this time, we have both learned the screen-printing process and it only made sense to start our own custom screen-printing company, Region Press. (now Region Design Co.) We started learning more about the history of La Porte and realizing the great things (like the lakes) that La Porte has to offer. This has been our inspiration behind our shirt collection that we now sell at local markets.

Region Design Co. offers graphic design, mural, and screen printing services while designing and selling their own La Porte and regionally inspired apparel and merchandise.

FAVORITE PASTIME OR HOBBY

I love antiquing and going to estate sales early on a Saturday morning.

PARTY TRICK, USELESS TALENT, OR FUN FACT

I was gifted a tattoo gun from my dad in college and used to give tattoos to friends and family out of my basement.

WHY DO YOU ENJOY BEING A MEMBER OF THE COLLECTIVE?

The Collective has done things right from the beginning; everything from the graphics of their facebook events, branding, website, and carefully curated markets. As a designer, I appreciate those details and I could tell right away that Mandy and Gabrielle were up to something of a higher quality than I was used to seeing in our area. After being a part of their markets, and being able to give back to the community, I decided that I would love to be a member of this community and to learn, meet, and make friends with other members that have similar values as I do for their businesses.
